By this point we'd negotiated our first ever locks... having arrived at Poolstock with no experience, and without the key to the handcuff padlocks which secured the paddle gear against vandalism. Fortunately, as we arrived at the first lock, another boat caught us up, and its crew taught us how to work a lock.
