A great set of pictures Chris. Only a certain political party who shall remain nameless, could have considered it sensible and appropriate to destroy all that infrastructure both above and below ground built up over several centuries. In the meantime, and thanks to that particularly prescient viewpoint, it would appear we are now all at the mercy of the Russians and the Arabs for our replacement fuel supplies. Brilliant, I wish I had been clever enough to bequeth that to the nation!
Now that looks like a view of the pit taken from Sycamore Avenue!!! I used to live at number 32 which was opposite the brew leading down to the little bridge under the 'Lickey line' which led to the reservoir for the fishing. Does anyone remember the shop Nuttalls at the bottom of Sycamore avenue? Spent more on Lucky Bags than anything!!! The owner had a very colourful parrot I think. My name is Les Prior and my father George Leslie Prior worked as a ripper at the colliery mid 50s and we left for Newton le Willows when I was 8 in 1959 after my mum and dad split up. I had 2 brothers Tom and Jeff and my sister Judith who passed away when she was 24.
I am sure this was owned by the King family
