I lived in Ince but had a friend at Hindley Grammar School who lived in Platt Bridge who I used to visit and I recall the park well. One of the lads at school lived in Platt Bridge and I can remember he wrote a poem about it for the school magazine, which bore the lines:
She was lovely as the lilac trees that border Platt Bridge Park.
The place where courting couples go when it's getting dark.
Why I've remembered that all these years I don't know, but I suppose it was true of parks everywhere in the mid-60s!

I remember this park in the mid\late 1950's I recall it was better kept then, I'm almost sure there was a park-keeper at that time. That's probably why it looked so pristine.

The many happy hours I spent here as a child, how great to see it again. My Great Uncle Tom used to work at the sewerage place.

i remember playing on platt bridge park in the 40s remember a man name jack fuller being in charge he also worked at the sewerage he lived in gas street happy days

I also remember Platt Bridge Park in the 40s, I think there was six swings and a banana. Jack Fuller used to chase us kids for walking on the big pipe behind the sewage works.I think I am of a similar age to you Owd Platt Bridger!

I remember falling in the sewerage works as a kid and managing to get out, got thrashed for it. Two weeks later Harry Eastham also from Platt Bridge like me fell in and did not get out, and unfortunately died, That made me stay clear from then on. Old Platt Whazz days

JUST TO CORRECT YOU ON THAT WALLACE. IT WAS TONY.HARRYS YOUNGER BROTHER WHO DROWNED IN THE SEWERAGE WORKS, NOT SURE ABOUT DATE MUST HAVE BEEN AROUND 1954/55.

I played in the park from 1935 onwards. my brother harry had to take me out so dad could get some sleep. He was permanent night shift at Maypole workin as a cutter!!I used to play with Jack Fullers two sons and had many a Jam Butty in his house.There was a family called Jones who lived in gas street who were notorious for fighting when drunk! The highlight of their year was when silcocks fair parked up behind king billy and the boxers used to take on anybody. Three younds and if you were still standing you got a big white fiver!!! I only ever remember one local who won it was a lad named Jack Greenwood from warrington rd abram Just over the river past the traffic lights.A boxer from Golborne named peter kane was on that night and I WAS TOLD ( dont know whether true or not) that he went on to become world flyweight champ. Anyone enlighten me?

it was 1958 when tony eastham died in sewridge i was there when it happend me and terry belshaw and 4 others he was my best freind i will never forget him i go sometimes and visit his grave at hindley cemertry

Regarding the jones family of gas street.. any info and or photos wpuld be greqt.. they are my famy lol.. my mam gladys jones..her parents jesse and phineas jones.and.. it was a young lad called tony who died in the sewerage plant.. my late aunty may ince told me about it as she knew the boy..she told me the story in 1992 as id named my little girl toni..usual contact is debitither@gmail.com

Jack Greenwood was my uncle. He was a good rugby player so could take the knocks I should think. Maxine his daughter often posts on here.
