This photograph is of Chancery Street which was located in St. Patrick’s Parish between Scholefield Lane in the distance and Hardybutts. This photograph was taken in 1962. It is interesting to notice the clean stone flags in front of the door of the house on the right. This was a common feature of many terraced houses when the lady of the house would scrub these flags once a week.

Out would come the women, smartening up their front door steps with donkey stones that they'd got from the Rag & Bone men in exchange for old clothes or scrap. Memories...
