Main picture taken in 1965 of a train heading south about to cross the Leeds Liverpool canal at Bamfurlong, the other taken today ( 26 July 2010 )from roughly the same spot.

Another nice one Tom, Its amazing how the appearance changes due to the spread of mother nature. All those gantry signals on the main line all gone now, and wagons hard up to the stops in Bamfurlong Sdg.'s.virtually on the tow-path itself. It must be at about this spot where you took that picture of Cliff Harter with his nipper on the crossbar that appears on WW/work/railways/page 7?

Nice photo. Me and my brother have walked along a number of the canals and old railway lines around Platt Bridge/Abram and noticed how they have changed (for the better mostly) over the last 40 years.

All the trees in and around railways are out of control, one of the good points of travelling on trains was to see the landscaps, and the views across the country.
