This photo was taken looking towards Wigan from Rosebridge(around 1968/70). On the near left side is Rosebridge methodist church... but does anyone know what the building is thats arrowed in the pic??? (P.S. sorry about the quality!)

Hi jam, this pic is already on under "places" then under "Rose Bridge". I have been told what the building is but forgotten, but think it is a school.

I cannot remember that building but I recognise Mrs Entwistle the owner of the Newsagents shop wearing the blue cardigan and leaning on the wall

The building looks like the old Wigan Convent girls school.

hiya Irene. yea, i know its already on here, but i thought i'd put it on again (with the arrow) to see if anyone knows what the building was...

Just had it suggested to me that it could be St Catherines school (the old school)on Scholfield Lane.

Think the building, pointed by the arrow, is St Catherine's primary school. This was on the top of Scholefield Lane.

Is it not the Royal George and i am guessing and only because we are looking straight up Birket Bank

No, it's not The Royal George.

Is it the white house youth club used to go there in my youth it was up the hill back of the crispen.

Surely its the old St Catherines School. it was a two storey turn of the century Building right on the footpath of the rosad running from Greenough St/Scholes to Birkett Bank. I remember waiting outside it for my Dad when I was a small boy after we'd played football against St Cats. Wasn't there a pub along that road called the Spotted Cow or something similar ?

Comment by: irene roberts nee griffiths on 19th July 2010 at 17:37

Yes, I was old some time ago what the building was but couldn't remember. It WAS St. Catherine's School.

THE PUB ALONG THAT ROAD WAS THE SPOTTED COW, A RELATION OF MY HUSBANDS WAS LANDLORD, HIS NAME WAS ALF CROMPTON, HE HAD TWO DAUGHTERS CAROL AND SUSAN
