hi aitch,i played on the rabbit rocks in the 50s also known as lovers hill, but i never knew where all those big round things came from my husband thinks it was something to do with the iron works is that right?

They are the dregs of the steel after it had been poured from the giant bottles, I think they were called, the rabbit rocks are solid with them, and they got that name because of all the tunnels and gulleys under them, a virtual warren as it were, there used to be thousands of them, but I never heard it called lovers wotsit, that for us was the back of the slaggy

Josie Thy Grandad worked here at "Top Place" after leaving the coldstream guards in 1918 I'll bet he he had something to do with dumping of these furnace slag deposits because his job was a moulder (have a look at info on that family tree program)
