Hi Brian, It seems a shame that modern sculptures appear as if by magic in the Wigan area and yet "The Friends of the Boer War Memorial" cannot get proper funding to replace this statue and the railings to protect it. E.T.

this statue was burried in the grounds of the park i looked it up a number of years ago and the person responcible was a gardener who just thought he would do his own thing and obviously make mistakes

It was not the gardener who was responsible , it was Wigan councillors , one of them was named Brogan long since passed .
Does this statue still exist? I have a postcard which describes it as 'monument in park, Wigan'. It is surrounded by railings. I would like to make a visit.
