I used to live at 64 Legh St. Golborne, near the Legh Arms pub, which later changed its name to The Silk Works (or similar).
High St. was at the bottom of Legh St.
Can't place the actual area, whereabouts on High Street is this, anyone know?
This is going out of Golborne towards Bridge St, all the houses on the left are still there, at the bend you can turn left into an industrial estate or carry on to the East Lancs Road.
These houses were commonly known as Ten Row, they were owned by Harbens Silk Mills and occupied by their employees.I lived at number 10 together with my wife who was also an employee,This was in the 1950s I think the rent was five shillings per week
So the Queen Anne pub is now located on the right where the trees are on the photo, thanks for locating this stretch, I was going the opposite way over the railway bridge, but just remembered that is Church Street - no wonder I couldn't recognise it.
Hi Allan, I writing a book for the History press called "Ye Old Golborne - A pictorial history" and would love to include your picure/s in it. Would love your permission. what do you think?
cheers
Rob.
the photographer was standing on the corner of the catholic church, where you turn up to naylors club.
The Queen Anne is not on the corner but further up the road nearer the east lanc's road.
Hi All, as stated all the houses are still there, No.1 High street is the furthest away in the corner. I have often wondered what the larger building at the end of the terrace was / is. I assume it's address would be Bridge Street, It looks like it has been empty for many years now.
The building jutting out was either the Harbens Office or the Mill Managers House
Hi,
Does anyone know if there was at one time a pub The Assessor’s Arms on Mill Street, Golborne?
Hi, does anyone know the age of the Queen Anne pub on Bridge Street, Golborne.
My nanna - Mona Appleton and her deceased husband Dick Appleton use to run the Queen Ann pub . My grandfather who I never met died in the pub of a heart attack. My nanna kept the pub going for quite a few years . She left sometime around 1963.
I have very fond memories of the Queen Ann
