Built in 1866 to a design in the Early English style of pointed architecture by Messrs Austin & Paley, Architects of Lancaster. The Pennington Clock was installed in 1888 and made by Messrs J.S Smith & Sons, Midland Steam Clock Works, Derby.The tower contains a peal of eight bells, cast on Lord Mayors Day, 1866 by Messrs Mears & Stainbank of London.

this photo was taken pre 1888 as the clock hadnt been installed. the clock is still hand wound today, the bells were also taken out in March 1935 for extensive refurbishment and are still heard being rung today
