very interesting as i was the last person born on the old limes estate. i was born in the first room from the right on the photograph, above the sloping porch roof.
Hello David, Thank you for your comment. I know nothing about the History of the Limes. Can you offer any other background on it? Was it passed down through the Lewis', and what happened to it? Have very vague info about the Limes except the old photo, and have never found anything on i'net in my ancestry research. Regards, Sheryl
hi sheryl my mother lived in limes farm with her uncle herbert lewis. my father worked for bert lewis thats how they met i was born in the cottages at the back down lurdin lane. that bert had . it used to be wigan lane house.
Great to hear from you Chris. I have a photo of Bert Lewis which I am uploading right now. I have found out such useful info on this website on two branches of my ancestors, compared to all other places I have ever looked!
hi sheryl. bert lewis was born at limes farm in 1897 he died 1970. his parents and some of his older brothers came from little budworth in cheshire the limes farm was at that time part of the standish estate which was sold in 1921 john green a butcher bought the limes with bert having ashare berts father bought wakefields farm as well .bert later sold wakefields to tom waring young tom waring still farms it and may be the house in the photo of bert.
Many thanks Chris! I must say this is rather like Xmas for me, I have always felt a certain affinity with my ancestors in both England and Scotland in particular, even though I live in Australia. This is wonderful info. I think we feel a need to know this stuff as we get older. Regards, Sheryl
