Whereabouts was this building?

They were near the old farmhouse which is still there. They were opposite St Peters cricket ground,on the other side of the Hockery Brook, close to where the new cycle path is now.The old farm is now used as a Horse riding centre.

My Grandad Jack Morris was living here in 1911, aged 21, with his parents, 3 brothers, 3 sisters and 2 nephews.

Maurice, Is it Ok for me to use this photo on my family tree website? I've got rid of the houses in the background and changed it to sepia to fit in with my 1910 photos.

Hi Lois,Its no problem, its nice to know the photo has been useful to you,its just a shame the houses were demolished,it was because the bypass was planned to go that way,and now the route as been changed anyway.

This photo brought back many happy thoughts of my childhood as we lived in the farm during the 1940's and 50's. I have been in every one of those houses and remember how friendly everybody was. If I remember correctly The Jacksons lived in the left one, the Ramsdales in the middle one and an old lady in the small right one. We all attended St Peters School again with very happy memories. Thank you for sharing the photo.

The Dowswells - Mother,(our Grannie)and daughters Jessie and Cissie, lived in No. 2, I think. There was no gas or electricity and the loo was a hole in a raised horizontal wooden seat in a shed out at the back with a door in the rear for the council to empty every so often!! This was the very early forties during the war. Auntie Jessie used to 'Dig for Victory' and grow all their own veg in the garden. Happy days!!

Just tracked down the source of a photo passed to my late mum by my Uncle. I see Lois Best and I are related as my maternal grandma, Lucy, is one of those referred to by Lois. Quite a full house.
