Hey.... I hear trams are making a come back in the north! I well remember Abbey Lakes, it was where the Corporation buses turned around, the Ribble buses went on the Ormskirk, where I went to school for a while. Why did I have to go all that way?...I'll never know now.
I used to stay there when my friend Pat Haliwells father was licencee there must be nearly 50 years ago
Anybody remember Abbey Lakes Dance Hall, behind the pub?
Those were the days ;o)
My Mum and Dad met at the dance hall....everyone warned Mum not to meet him as he would stand her up and break her heart. They were married for 45 until he passed away in 2003.
My GG Grandfather William Henry Tennant used to do some sort of diving act in the lake. He was known as 'Bill the Diver'. Must have been early 1900's or even late 1800's.
