George V and Queen Mary travel from Platt Bridge and through Hindley in 1913. They were en rout from Knowsley to Wigan.

The building on the left is the existing town hall.

Where abouts in Hindley is this?
They must have gone a long way round if they were going from Knowsley to Wigan. Or was this the scenic route.

John, The cars would be coming from the Bird Ith Hand cross roads, the street behind the crowd is Frederick Street with the Paint Works chimney in the background.

John... I will quote from the book...

"A Royal tour of Lancashire took place in 1913. Several photographs have survived to record the route of King George V and Queen Mary through Platt Bridge and Hindley of the 10 July. This is the only known view showing the royal car passing the Town Hall on route from Knowsley (where the King and Queen were staying) to Wigan."

The town hall mentioned is still the same town hall that is there today, the building over to the left. The car has just turned off Liverpool Road at the Bird 'ith Hand, and is now approaching what is now the Wigginer public house. There is a car sales lot close to where the photographer took the shot from.

Thank you, I know exactly where this is now.
Their route must have been on the A58 passing through St. Helens, Haydock, Ashton and Platt Bridge to Hindley. The quickest way would have been through Billinge, but maybe the road wasn't good enough.
