Back wall is Woodcock St entrance. Think it might even be 1940's, Dennis.
There used to be a really good biscuit stall in there where you could pick and mix your biscuits.
hi, Dennis. In my Past Forward article, A Apple For The Teacher, I told of buying a pottery rabbit identical to one I had loved in Ince Central Infants School. The stall where the lady is standing is where I bought it from. Thanks for these wonderful pictures! Irene.
Hi Irene... I remember that article, and I am glad the picture bring back memories for you.
About 20 years ago, I bought a teapot from there, a corner stall, don't remember the name of it. I brought that teapot back to the States with me and still use it..
George Fazackerly- Furniture, left of the door.
Gibson & Young- Glassware, right of the door
Alf Peacock- Haberdashery,etc.
Mortons- Grocery.
Dawsons- Music.
Rhead- ?
Harts- Pottery
I think Rhead's sold clothing, but not sure. The Rhead family now have the pet stall in the far corner of the new Market Hall.
As an 81yr old Wiganer, the photo`s of the old Market Hall recall many memories. How on earth did you find what you wanted on that pottery stall Irene & Janet? How did the stall lady get to items right at the back? Was there a passage way at the back I wonder.
hello, ernest. if the stall was still there i could point out exactly where the rabbit was.....it had been there for years, and when I started work, I bought it with my first wage. I can't recall how the assistant reached it, but I still have it and love it as much as ever. Isn't it nice to look back on all these lovely old photos?
Does anyone remember Mr King the butcher who had a stall here?
David, there are 2 photo`s of King`s butcher`s stall and one of Mr.and Mrs.King in this Album under Work then under Market Hall. There is another photo of Mr.King on horseback also in this Album under People then under Kings.
Green`s butcher`s made excellent brawn.
I remember in one corner was Platt's Ointment Stall, they came from Golborne! they had a shop near Golborne Centre.
