Hi Kevin. I'd like to see more photos of the Chapel Lane area, any era. I had relatives who lived in Bradford Street and Johnsons Terrace.
Been in there for a few puncture outfits I can tell you !!!
I was born just this side of the old iron Chapel Lane bridge and so knew the shop very well.I was a mate of Jack's eldest son and was taken out with them on many a Sunday ride in one of the few cars around in those days. When my sons wanted their first bike it was straight down to Jacks for it! Great family - as was a lot round there at the time.
my grandad had the clog shop at 28 chapel lane and i dont know if anybody remembers him,he had a "peg Leg"
This is the first time I have come across Chapel Lane. My great grandfather William Wood and family were living at 3 Chapel in the 1881 census. Im sure the building is long gone!
My father tried to buy me a bike from watson's around 1962 it was £16 complete with gears and a dynamo, but dad was refused credit as my mother left my dad in debt when she left him.We lived in chaple st and i was given a secondhand bike.
I bought my first bike off Jack, when i left school, and i lived in Hartley Terrace, between Faggy Lane and Queen St.
Why has my comment re Watson's bike shop june 2010 be deleted it was there last Saturday 7 June 2014 it was something that happened in my past and was not harming any one mum and dad have now passed away.
I may have dreamt this, but was there some kind of bell under the mat as you walked in the shop?
Bought my first bike from here, paid it off at £2 a week. Born just across the road in Ann Street.
