Meadow Dairy store so busy in the town then…

What a fabulous photo! It must have been wonderful in the Meadow Dairy with the butter being weighed and patted with butter pats and wrapped in greaseproof paper. I believe the assistants in such places used to fashion little bags out of a square of paper to hold sugar, currants etc. without sellotape. It is a lost art. That lady walking up Library Street could me in my forties' clothes carrying my basket! I still use a wicker shopping basket....cakes, pies and bread don't get squashed!

Great picture Veronica, For those interested in types of vehicles from long
ago, the flatbed lorry about to head down Wallgate is a Commer, part of
the Rootes Group manufacturers. Cheers, Ray.

Yes Ray you could spend hours searching but they are fascinating.
I found the site a couple of years ago but was told they couldn’t be posted on here. I spent two hours last night of my time finding some to post so that they can be enjoyed. There are thousands to go through. Good Luck if you decide to search.

Looks like the sign on the right is advertising the opening of Rigby’s shoe shop.

Well done Veronica for making the effort, you can tell how popular uploaded images are by the amount of comments. Brilliant images of a bygone time.

Thank you Methinks.
There are some more that I will post a couple at a time. Might as well…

Thank Veronica for bringing this picture of Moot Hall Chambers to our attention.
I was looking at a recent picture I took and those lovely stone balustrades in front of the upper floor windows have been removed and the remaining stonework left crumbling.
Now BetFred bookies the stonework is clean but missing those balustrades and the ornate structure on the roof, it looks to ‘something’ missing.
