Thanks to Ron Hunt who posted the latest photo of the Market Place I’ve been able to compare it to an earlier posting I made that showed a section of Moot Hall (top photo). The hall was demolished in 1869 so the top photo must be before the demolition but the lower photo looks older and the building next to “Barlows” seems to have been modified by the time the top photo was taken.

Are any of those buildings still standing?
As part of my research on the Rowbottom family I’m trying to find out where Number 1 Wallgate would have been. Any ideas? Can’t be far from there?

Clare No1 is the building at the top of Library street. It was originally COOP & Co .but has had many owners since. Check out the photographs on MARKET PLACE
