Great colours on the buses back in the day.
In the windows of the building on the right the letters read MOSS'S SCHOOL OF DANCING.
Leigh and St Helens buses.
AEC buses .
The two little lads look like they're rushing to get to school, they might be late.
The two buses are Leigh Corporation and St Helens Corporation but not as common as Ribble and Lancashire United in Wigan. The St Helens is on the 320 route to Liverpool via Platt Bridge, Ashton, Haydock, St Helens and Prescot and not on the 362 to St Helens via Orrell and Billinge. You would also see a Bolton Corporation bus in Wigan on the 15 route via Aspull and Westhoughton.
I can imagine Ray Smyth will like this photo !
Oh, the Moss's school of dancing brings back some lovely memories. I used to go nearly every Saturday afternoon. I learned to dance with Tom Moss and {I think her name was Margaret } . I used to pester my dad for a bit of money to go, but I used to do little jobs in house for it. I am now in my 70's so its lovely to remember this. Thank you for picture.
St Helens Corporation bus on the 320 joint service to Liverpool operated by St Helens and Wigan Corporation buses, together with Ribble and Lancashire United. The Leigh Corporation bus would be operating the 58 service to Leigh via Golborne which took a different route into Leigh than the Lancashire United 57 service via Golborne to Leigh.
Yes Walt, what a great picture. Judging by the buildings at the back,
the St Helens Corporation AEC bus is toward the bottom of Hope Street,
at the 320 Liverpool bus stop, which was also the bus stop for the 21 bus
to Kitt Green. The Leigh Corporation AEC bus is already on its way back
to Leigh. Thanks to Tim Cooke for the picture.
MR . X ARTHUR Has already said they are Leigh and St Helens buses.
Valerie, its lovely when a photo pops up on here, which brings lots of memories back.it stirs the imagination back to younger day's. I worked in Hope St. In the early 70s until 87, at Whelans supermarket.I left just as Morrisons were taking over.
I too, used to go to the Dance School mentioned in abt 1945/50. Saturday mornings for tap dancing. For PAD folk who remember that far back, we tapped to a song popular then...Roll a Silver Dollar down upon the Ground !
Is this a photo of a painting or a photo of a photo?
PW, it looks like a photo of an 'out of perspective' painting of a photo.
Anyroadup, my gran once had a budgie that could say "Liverpool Bus". Beat that!
Hiya Edna, I so remember Whelans I used to pop in sometimes. I know times have to change, but sometimes its not always for the best. We were so happy then and SMALL things used to satisfy us, with little money spent. Glad I have some lovely memories. I keep on at my family to make lots of memories. Please stay safe.
Thank you Valerie, you are so right in what you say, you stay safe, and I hope this year is better for everyone.x
I would say that this is a photo taken through a window of another bus as you can see reflections of other things
I can remember Room At The Top and a chip shop was it the Savoy, before Whelans .
