I can see the 'Queens Hall' up there on the right, back in the 1950s we kids went to watch Harry Corbet with Sooty and Sweep, magic night for us 5 year olds.
Jinksi - Yes, Battye's was a tailors. The corner of Market St and New Market St is still known as 'Battye's corner' to many people.
This photo must have been taken prior to 1977, as the JJB shop in the picture became the Ajmeer Manzil Indian restaurant in that year.
Would think this dates from the late 60's or early 70's, there are old Wigan Corporation buses in the background and they were phased out from 1974.
I remember going to the Queen's Hall a couple of times in the mid-sixties for the Eddie Wareing RL film show, where he showed the final between Wigan and Hunslet and a colour film of how the US reported the match. On another show he had a panel with the Aussie captain and referee Eric Clay who had upset the Aussies on the previous tour by what they claimed were his biased decisions in the 3rd test (1963)
