Yet another iconic building destroyed by our "Heritage Minded" council to be replaced by the GRAND ARCADE....Enough said.
Agree totally Ron. Look at that attractive building, the pride that the designers and builders must have had in it's construction. Compare with the ugly "boxes" to be found all around the town today.

I've never seen a Lancashire United or Ribble bus is in Station Road, only Wigan and Bolton corporations. This is 1975 and the Civic Centre council offices had been built a few years earlier, out of sight behind the Central Hall. There was also a small church to the left, I don't know what denomination.
I really do not remember Central Hall but must have walked passed it a million times. Must have been quite impressive inside.
I remember the little chapel, was it the Elim Pentecostal Church at the bottom of Stairgate?
Colin, the ELIM chapel is on the left. Stairgate was in between both churches. You can see the bottom of Stairgate on the photo.
