This is a photo I took on rainy night in Library Street in 1961, of 3 of my fellow art students. We had just left the Tech, where the Art School was based, and were probably on our way to the Bodega for a "frothy coffee". I can't recall the name of the student on the left but I know he came from the St Helens area, in the middle Malcolm Unsworth, who years later was best man at my wedding, he lived at Gathurst Road and Tom Sutton who hailed from Leyland. They are standing opposite the swimming baths and the lights in the distant window belong to the building on the corner of Hewlett Street adjoining what was Timberlake's showroom.

I don't know why but I love this pic...I think it's the wording: "A rainy night in Library Street in 1961", and yet looking at the lads it's hard to believe it was taken 50 years ago! It makes me want to go back and follow them to The Bodega, and see Wigan as it was then, just once more. Fanciful maybe, but there's just something about it.

Thank you Irene and Maureen for your kind comments, I owe a lot to Wigan for my education. It held me in very good stead for my subsequent 40 years as an Art teacher.
