where was holt st?????
looking up the street to poolstock lane ,note washing hung across the street
holt st was the second st from the bold hotel.
Holt St. is still there, although it looks very different to what we see on the photo. This street is the main entrance to the new Community School, which used to be in Kipling Ave.
So is the Methodist Church at the top of here and is this the street what is now the entrance to the new school.
Our Grandad!
My Grandma lived in Holt st her name was aspey they lived at # 12 in about 1913 I think Grandads family or his brother also lived there before that do you have any info of them
to lanky11, sally round ,nee aspy lived next door to me in holt st,i don't know if that's any useful information for you ,she had a son kieth who sadly died in his 30s, and also a daughter Jean ,who I see from time to time
James Aspey and his wife Elizabeth children lived at 12 Holt St from at least 1918 until he died there in 1936.
Apart from Alice who was born Wigan Road and baptised at St Peter's Hindley, all other children were born at !2 Holt St and baptised at St James Poolstock. The two Margarets, Mary Elizabeth and John James all died at the same address.
They must have moved back to Wigan Road between 1936 and 1838 as Alfred died at 3 Wigan Road in 1938 and is buried with his father in Hindley Cemetery.
When Henrietta and Edith Emily get married at St Peter's Hindley in 1941 and 1945 they are of 3 Wigan Road.
