I remember those houses and shops very well.
So do I. A relative of my dad's had a sweet shop somewhere in the middle of the row on the left.
After the demolition, could this be the land where the Co-op
was built
The co-op is were its always been, The council houses were built were the old houses were knocked down.
my grandad was brought up on fleet street and his family lived in and around there for many many years
I remember 'owd John's' little shop in the middle of the row and going for a quarter of Typhoo tea for my mother with coupons just after the war ended. Must have been in the mid fifties. Later, after the demolition and new house built I saw John in a bungalow in Worsley Mesnes when I was about 14-15. Fantastic photo.

hi, the shop you can see was used as a house till it was knocked down the family that lived the was Darbyshire ie Brian was the youngest then there was trevor and an older Kenneth .after that (going down the st ) there was a young couple then the cunninghams, the first house standing out was owd john and I recollect that he died there. After that it was "betty liptrots" then the Darbyshire no relation to the shop people. Betty and Dorothy. not shown after that was the fosters shop and my aunty ediths
The young couple that lived in the house between the Darbyshires and the Cunninghams were Bill and Betty Armstrong (my mother and father) along with me and my younger brother William. Our house number was 41.One of my best mates at the time was Gordon Davies.
Another family to the other side of the Darbyshires I believe was the Sutherlands with a daughter Janie.
Apologies, just revisited the memory banks and I believe the aforementioned family to other side of the Darbyshires should be the Litherlands (not Sutherlands)
I lived at 21 fleet street and I would like to meet up with
any one from fleet street etc I remember Gordon and Christine davies also T Darbyshire my phone is 01257 400251 my wife died last year so please e-mail or phone me
The man on the roof would be sitting over mine and my brothers' bedroom. Our house was a mouse hotel, I remember my Dad laying traps, and little square pieces of cardboard with some blobs of green sticky goo on.Some evenings we would be sat in the kitchen and watch them scurrying across the mantlepiece, woke up one night to find one running over us in bed.My Dad always maintained that in the six months prior to us being re-housed he never saw any mice at all.
I live at 43 my grandma’s old house Nelly and Jack banks had Linda jackie and diane
