Remember going to this place with horse and cart from Rigby's farm,(situated then, where Worsley Mesnes housing estate is now)to pick up "hot mash" after making the vinegar,as an extra treat of food for the cattle, cows mainly, they loved it, and so did I always had a couple of handfuls on the way back. This would be around the late 1940s. Anybody else's isn't like Ellsey's
Does anyone know what the black and white house is that's behind Ellsey's and is still there now?
On the 'National Library of Scotland' maps it shows Smithy Brook Brewery at the back where the caravans are. Maybe it was a pub but it's not listed on the 1908 map.
The Black and white house was called 'Knowles Villa.I lived in Knowles ave leading to the house.
It was formerly owned by W.Atherton the butcher.
Nice man who let us play in the grounds.
Knowles Villa is still there today in 2022
