Pity you don't have the front page and centre pages of the Observer Ron, they showed the winner and in colour.
I do have another Observer somewhere? showing coloured photographs of the contestants
I believe it was at that time of the contest coloured photos were used in the Observer. I can still recall the blue mini dress that Janet wore. What a difference it made to the paper.
The first colour picture was on the front page of the Wigan Observer, in August 1966. It was of children at Wigan infirmary.

The Observer's new web offset press was installed at the papers new works on January 1966, they were then pioneers in crystal clear news print and full colour pictures. Most other newspapers for over two decades were still using the hot metal principles.
Ok thanks Black ink.
Will have a look.
There's a small article of a few lines saying that the Wigan Art Gallery and Museum in the Powell Library would be officially opened by the Mayor next month. This was March 8th 1968, however I'm sure the Art Gallery and Museum and items of curiosity in the upstairs room of Powell Library, had been open to the public for many years before that date.
Maybe it had never been officially opened.
They were for sure pioneers in newspaper production and excellent at it too. The Wigan Observer printed our paper the Chorley Guardian and Leyland Guardian from the mid 1960s, great newspaper quality.
I also remember the superb colour photos and the Wigan Queen of industry competition.
