Judging by the state of the ‘salon’ he would definitely need to be shorn of his curly locks.
‘Ravenhead’ Barber’s Shop….. I bet it did well for lorry drivers.
I should have said
“ Ravenheads for shaven heads”. Free for lorry drivers!
Good ‘un that Veebs .
I wish I’d have thought of that one at the time .
Good catch phrase Veronica, that once happened to me I'd shaved half my hair off when dubbed packed in, I had put my cap on and go barbers where he cried laughing.
Does anyone remember Jack Webster ? He was the yard foreman in the 1970s.
I went to buy bricks for a small warehouse that I was building in Pemberton. He gave me a good discount because I loaded by hand any broken bales onto my 3 ton lorry.
Sorry Mr Gaskell , I don’t recall the name Jack Webster , but then , I only started at Ravenhead in 1982…
coincidentally however , at that time , there was a really nice bloke named Bill Gaskell ( same surname as yourself ) that held the position of yard foreman . He lived in one of the company owned properties on Pimbo lane . A real toff .
There’s a photo of the gent on this thread .
He used to refer to everyone as “ Old Boy “.
