Who knows where Ozy ?
My Grandfather gave all his 'papers' to the Wigan Archives in the early 1960's, I don't know what the said papers related to but when my cousin enquired about them about 10 or more years later, wanting to see them, he was told they hadn't been sorted & they couldn't find them anyway.....so I dont give you much luck enquiring abt this item !

Ozy, it may well be in the subway underneath the CPPH which contains the heating and water pipes etc., when I was contracted out to do pest control at Wigan & Leigh NHS I would at times go under there and some of the items put under there, and then possibly forgotten about was unbelievable. There was a large portrait of the Board members which I told the Nursing Sister about, I got back the reply that they know about it upstairs. The portrait had gone on another much later visit. I was told it had been moved into the Board Room, so this elaborate tea chest could also be in there too Ozy, the Board Room is on the third floor.
On thinking, there is in the entrance foyer some display cabinets with antiquities and gifts made to the hospital over the years on display - could it be there?
Hopefully it hasn't been stolen, because there are thieves who do go around the clinics and hospitals just to see what they can lift

Ozy. Not quite sure myself but think I have seen something similar to do with either Aldermen or Freemen of the Borough.
Ron has great collection of RAE Infirmary and donated much of his documents earlier this year. He might have some insight.
Hospitals though are renowned for what might be termed ‘misappropriation’.
I worked in many hospitals in the 1980’s and have knowledge of the extraordinary means of ‘misappropriation’ as it was politely termed and collusion with so called ‘security’. It would make your eyes pop out.
Despite the very excellent, dedicated and honest people, The NHS was and may still be a thief’s paradise.
