William would have been 20 years old at the time of this photo. He was living (perhaps lodging) at 12 Bell Lane, Orrell and his work was described as “Head - Horse Man (Farm) Heavy Worker
anyone on here remember them having a three day horse ploughing contest event on a field at Ashton cross on Liverpool Road in the late 50s, with all the trimmings of the Royal Lancashire Show that was the first place I ever watched Chitty,Chitty Bang Bang in a big tent standing up lol

Did bill work for the water board
Hi Henry, apologies for not being able to answer that since the only information on William (Bill?) Finch, comes from the 1939 Census.
Hi Keith there was a bill finch worked at water board he lived in brook lane pemberton he always said he was a farmer in his younger days on lancs bmd he married a girl named Halliwell ,the same name as the potato picker in the other photo could be related
That’s quite a coincidence Henry, so it might well be the same person. Not sure how to ‘prove it’, but there’s less than a mile between the two addresses, seems likely.
