This could be the original Pemberton police station Ron, which was demolished circa 1904, and replaced by the red brick building which stood on the site until 2006.
I've just looked at the 25 inch OS map from the early 1890s, and the layout of the old police station was very similar to this, with two protruding wings on the front, and a central doorway.
Although Percy Carrington retired long before I joined the police, I remember him as a police pensioner living in Ellesmere Road, and quite a few of my older colleagues served with him in Wigan Borough.
Mick thanks for the info. That's great. I thought it may have been Pemberton but looking at another image of Pemberton showing trams in the same location The building wasn't the same. So it was obviously after 1904.
Ron, was the tram image you looked at Item #:26476?
That pic must have been taken after April 1906, as the destination on the foremost tram is shown as Abbey Lakes, and the route was only extended to there in that year.
there are less cops in pemberton now than then
There are more police on this image covering the Pemberton area, Than there are now in the whole of the police force for Wigan.
There is rare film footage of them caught in action here :- https://youtu.be/6Orde7FtHh0

Freddie and Ron. The main headquarters for GMP (Wigan area) is in Pemberton and all officers are based there.
