What a pretty girl..and that's without botox and false lashes,I bet she was'nt obese either with the hard work that they had to cope with..I have nothing but admiration for these lasses.

Maureen. I have mentioned this on W.W.A. a couple times previously. I worked with the pit brow girls at The Maypole Colliery, late forties, early fifties. The way to describe them. True ladies, and the salt of the earth. I had nothing but admiration for them. They really did work hard, but always happy, and got on with each other extremely well.

Agreed Henry. a Wigan beauty. This photo has the look of a portrait. Who knows anything about that hat?

Roy..believe it or not..it was only yesterday that I was wondering the same thing..
G.W..that hat looks like a work of art to me..I bet they had to manipulate them from one piece of material.

My mother who has been dead since 1976, at the age of 61 would tell me of her days of graft as a PIT BROW LASS she would say it was bloody hard work and she use to say lassies have not got a clue what hard work was! And I know she was bang on, well done MA,,after all these years I still miss you ,love from your son ALAN.
