Two standard double-decker buses, Leyland Atlantean and Daimler Fleetline. Both have Northern Counties Bodies. There are slight differences in the bodies.

The bus on the right has a Park Royal body, their factory was in NW London (I think). I guess the similarity is for commonality of parts repair wise.

Bodies are supplied by Northern Counties of Wigan until it's factory turned over to titan production by Park Royal Vehicles. The PRV vehicles incorporate two slots above the upper deck windscreen pillar.

I think there is a little confusion here. The bus on the left is a Daimler Fleetline with Northern Counties bodywork. So built in Coventry and Wigan. The bus on the right is a Park Royal bodied Leyland Atlantean built in Leyland and West London. Park Royal closed in the late 1970s but had stopped producing bus bodies earlier as it was retooled to build Titan TN15s. The production of those was moved to Workington after Park Royal ceased. The lower panels on both buses are interchangeable to reduce costs and make it easier to swap them when damaged. The picture was taken in Cheetham Hill, Manchester.

Yes Stuart, the bus to the left is indeed a Daimler Fleetline YNA303M. After GMB it went in service for Stotts of Oldham.

The advent of rear engine buses have been a great development in passenger transport. There have been two types of chassis that have dominated the UK market, being Leyland Atlantean and Daimler Fleetline. Any bus driver/operator would probably have their favorite.

Alex. Rear-engined buses bah!!. Nothing I repeat nothing was quite so exiting for a young lad as sitting on the very front left hand side on a Corporation Bus in the 1950s/early 60s You had that clear window and view right in front of you with the driver in his little cab to the front on the right hand side. Of course it was then horrible at night when the lights came on and they pulled down that concertina blind over the window. younger readers will wonder what on earth we mean !

Horrible..you mean the PD1-2s Carolaen. Not good to drive from the driver's point of view. Single cab, crash gearbox, poor brakes, too hot in summer, cold in winter and no power steering. But yes like you say, good view point for the kids.
