These were the days when you had to provide your own working tackle. In later years there seemed to be a general issue of overalls, plus steel capped safety boots. In the days when this photograph was taken, most miners' wore clogs. If you got your foot trapped, it was much easier to slip your foot out of a clog. Pit baths were a great amenity, although not all collieries had them.

Going on 87 years when the film was made so its just as old as me, it makes me feel old.Born7 august1936.
