Great photos John, can I take a copy for my Walker Bros.collection?
Nice photo John: Any idea of the date that it was taken?
There`s an interesting thread in Album, Places, Long Lane Colliery. A link gives:-
LIST of COAL MINES around WIGAN and NEARBY TOWNS
http://windinghouse.webs.com/one.htm
There are two Long Lane pits in this list; one in Ashton and the other in Hindley.
Wikipedia list of Wigan pits gives:-
Long Lane Nos 1 and 2, (Crow Pit), Ashton in Makerfield.
Long Lane Four Feet, Hindley Green.
Long Lane Three Feet, Hindley Green.
Correction to first line in my comment- Album should be Communicate.
I notice that the flywheel has cotton ropes attached. Was this pic taken at the pit, or at the works?
Ted of course yopu can use the photo for your collection.
I`m not sure of the date of the photo ,some time in the 30`s I would guess. The photo was taken in situ at the pit which was Crow pit ,Long Lane which is now Bryn Rd
