I remember similar ones at Ince Parish Harvest Festival when I was at Ince Central School; I don't know who baked them, though.
Dear Gladys, I remember one year at the distribution after the Harvest Festival at church the sheaf was sold off in pieces for church funds. I bought some with my "lunch money" (probably about 3d, to spend at Kelsall's on the way home from school) and my mum made it into toast for tea. It may even have been that one shown in your photo. Happy memories
Dearwigwann, What a lovely memory for us both thank you
how did they make the shape was it in a mold
I imagine so, or they were very artistic. Come on, Gladys, let us in on the secret. Edwards was the best bakers for miles.
The wheat sheaf is made all by hand, no mould, we learned how to make these whilst at Bolton Tech... a loy of patience was needed..
It's a great shame that things like this are seldom seen nowadays
