Superb picture Thomas.
How good does that shop look?
Thanks for sharing thomas, that's a proper shop, they are not organised like that today.
They simply do not make shops like that anymore! Imagine asking for a tin of peas and they are on the top shelf and the poor girl has to go up a ladder. The H&S office would go ballistic today! No self service there, that is for sure... I bet there is a chair just out of shot for customers to sit on whilst they read out their weekly 'order'.
A cracking photograph.
The shop assistants could add up many items really quickly, it was also more difficult in pounds shillings and pence - no calculators in those days.
A wonderful pic, full of nostalgia. Please tell me I don't just imagine life was better then...or do we all say that when we reach a certain age !
I used to shop in shops like that, and Helen, I too think that life was better then, so you aren't on your own with that thought..
Another fantastic photo, Thomas.....keep them coming, you've got quite a fan-club out here! What memories you've brought back for us all-thankyou so much.
hello, mr such , do you remember my mum , maureen harrison , she worked at latimers in wigan
My mum, Margaret Eatock, worked at Latimers in Hindley in the late 60's or early 70's. I rememeber walking into the shop and seeing big bags of dried peas.
