I went to the White City As a spectator(13 y.o.)
We shared a coach with the Grammar School and whilst we had only 4 athletes representing Linacre ,the Grammar had several. It was a memorable day as I saw Bobby Charlton in the crowd.I remember Lew Birchall he was long jump and hop step and jump.Walker was a giant of a lad and i think he did shot put and/or hammer.Carrol was 400 Yards but I don,t remember the other guy.We did very well considering some schools had 20 or 30 athletes.I distincly remember Bill Brace saying we came 3rd or 4th
with the overall points system. This was mainly down to Lew who I think won both events an Walker won his.
I remember running in the TLS 400 yards relay team in the Wigan school sports, at Poolstock dog track possibly 1955 we won in a then record time of 44 seconds, unfortunately I can only remember two members Bob Carroll and myself.
The staff member front right In the U13’s Lythgoe Cup photo, 1954, is Mr Lindsay.
He was in charge of we U13’s.
I won the Shot putt at the Northern Schools . Came 3rd in the All England later.
