I don't think I have ever seen a school building so imposing. I have never actually seen the school close up it was always in the distance.
I can remember playing 'British Bulldog' in that yard. Bill Spencer was the headmaster at the time, a real character.
This bleak scene for the little inmates gives me the shudders. Oflag IV-C looks more inviting.

As a St George's girl from 1948 - 55 I have only find memories of the school, headmaster Bill Spencer pinching my liquorice stick during class, running home to Portland St. at them time for a banana, and being part of the Rose Queen retinue parading round and round the playground in our lovely dresses. Happy times for me.

Nice story and I find I have nothing but fond memories of lady also named Sylvia.
that was the boys playground .I remember it went right down to the river dougie and the girls playground was next to the woodyard....Happy days 1968 till1974 .
