I'd forgotten that I was once so slim and "athletic."
I'd also forgotten that two of my u 15 football mates also ran for the school-Ronnie Melling and Colin Addison.
I'd also forgotten that Andy Simm was on the cross country team.
Andy and I finished up playing for Wigan colts and in the back row for Wigan R.U.Andy was one of the best back row forwards I've ever played with.
Thanks for the "flash back in time."
All the best.Hope all are well.
Stan Ollerton
Ronnie Melling went on to play with Wigan Athletic, amongst others. While Martin Richards was/is still the Rugby League reporter for the Daily Express. I see Ronnie occasionally and it must be about 25 years ago at a school reunion the last time I saw Martin.
Hi Ron, I taught at the same Wolverhampton school as Brian Charnley and we both live in the same Staffordshire "village", although I only see him occasionally these days.
I can still hear Mr Gapes shouting 'Addi Addi Addi' at the top of his voice at every athletics meeting.
Third left, back row: David (D.C.L.) Gee who went on to be top man at the Friends of the Earth (saw him on telly a couple of times). Left, centre row: Jim Hammond (a good schoolmate).
Bit of a long shot really. I was a former pupil of Thomas Linacre betweeen 1955 and 1959/60. I started in 1C ending in 5D. Does anyone remember the form report books we received each year. They gave comments from subject teachers who gave marks out of 100. You were then assessed your position in the class. As I remember I came top in the last year but unfortunately my reportt book has disappeared. Does anyone know where I could get a copy?
I still have mine.. doesn't make happy reading <g>I also have the school mags from the time I was there 1957-1962 and a scrap book of newspaper cuttings from the time it opened in 1953 until the merger( take over) with the Grammar school in 1963 I along with a friend, have written a History of the school which was published a few years ago. The library have a copy.
