Does anyone recognise the other people?
A strange photograph, technically speaking. School group photos were usually taken by itinerant professionals, so you'd expect them to get the poses right, and only try and sell a perfect picture. However, not all of the children are looking at the camera - over half of them (and the teacher) are looking off to their left. Very odd.
maybe someone took advantage of a professional taking a photo
There was always more than one photo taken, this may not have been the one that was sold, not if Austin Lyons was taking them anyway.
I had my photo taken at the same time, a different class it was a proffessional and we were told to look at this person standing to the left. Dont know why we all ended up with a shadow on one side of our faces.
This brought back a lot of old memories i instantely rcognised myself on the extreme left of the middle row.
The Kathleen? is my cousin, kathleen Westhead. The second ? is myself,Barbara Betton, who made such an impression nobody remembered my name..
The teacher was mrs mcCormick not mrs mcCormack as stated in picture iam her granddaughter
I worked as a Saturday girl at Boots chemist in Wigan while I was still at school. Barbara Sproston worked there full time and was so kind to me as a young girl. Mr Taylor was the Manager and Heather Cheetham also worked full time. Anyone remember them ?

What a lovely surprise to see this photograph, for the first time in 60+ years. Thankyou everyone for your comments and bringig back memories of classmates. Also thanks to you Anne for such a lovely comment re Boots. I remember you so well and I'm still in contact with Heather Cheetham and many others, great fun days!
I have just seen your comment Barbara and I am thrilled to bits. My sister Susan and then Anita( 11 years younger than me ) followed me as Saturday girls. I left Wigan 45 yrs ago when I got married but love to hear about everyone. Take care
Some of you were in my class at Argyle Street. Barbara Sproston and Betty Farrimond I definitely remember. I have posted some comments on this perhaps you can look at them and throw in any comments you may feel you like to add. Happy new Year mike.
