Isn't that the little mission that's we called it on the right hand side, lived round the corner the lady holding the baby looks like pat moor from bolton st
Yes Tom it is. The road seems really narrow with the houses on each side by today’s standards. My friend lived at the very end of Platt Lane near the fields it seemed a long way in those days and kids used to walk to St Pat’s school in the morning back home for dinner then back home in the afternoon. Children were fit in those days with all the walking they did.
I would have been in these walks a few years before. We also used the Mission for Cub Scout meeting, I think the Boys Brigade used it as well, and went to numerous beetle drives etc with my Mum, and of course Sunday School. My favourite memories were of the Sunday Schools Halloween Parties with games.
Lovely photo Veronica.I remember Platt Lane very well. I'm wondering is that Mr & Mrs Bootle's corner shop in the back ground, just passed the little mission.
I would like to think this is Bolton Street, my mam was born here and I have very fond memories of visiting my grandparents back in the late 1940s and early 1950s.
the mission hall, between Caunce Street and Stanley Street not only had a thriving Sunday school but housed uniformed organisations and social gatherings.I was in the Life Boys here until it clashed with Paul Temple on the wireless
I attended two Wedding receptions and a birthday party here in the 1940s
Of course, alcohol being forbidden, adjournment had to be made to the Balcarres
Tv Ariels fixed on chimney , Walter bolton st not far away
Wasn’t Bolton St further up Scholes Tom walking past Greenough St and past Platt Lane?
Veronica The bottom of bolton was platt lane the mission was in Platt lane
The missiong hall was also used for the GFS which was the girls friendly society. We had our own banner for the walking day barrades. We learned all kinds of things simplair to the boy scouts. We learned flags and knots.
