Iworked in the offices of Rathbones' Bakery during 1969/1970 and some of us girls were 'instructed' to go forward for the Queen of Industry Competition as none of us were coming forward. This was my entry in the Observer and I couldn't believe it when I was picked to represent Rathbones. Very scarey on the final night held at the Casino in Wigan, didn't get anywhere and didn't expect to but something to remember. The sad thing is all the paper cuttings have got lost and I only have this photo from the experience. I had copies from the newspaper archives in the library but they didn't print out very well. Anybody got them?

The winner must have been something special if you didn't win love.

Hi Joan, Yes that would be the same one. I must see if I can find the cuttings I printed out at the Library a few years ago. They are quite blurred but I will see if you are indentified in the line up. If it looks any good I will post it on here. Keep watching, may take a bit of digging or another trip to the library. rgds Carole

Hello again Woodentop, Well thanks for your vote even though it's nearly 40 years later ha ha. My Mum's family did and do comem from Bryn / Ashton, know any Parrells??

Comment by: woodentop on 24th March 2009 at 10:38

carole, don·t know any parrells but do remember a Mclyment from Rosehill who somehow might be connected to the Parrells

Comment by: Carole Walker on 25th March 2009 at 08:32

Hi Woodentop, Well my grandparents lived at the top of Rose Hill ( Rag Brew as it was called ) and my Auntie Maggie married Stan McClymont. I know they lived with Stan's parents for a while but I don't know where that was but it sounds like that's the connection. My Mum's cousin Bertha (maiden name Eaves) still lives up there with her husband, also a Stan who originated from Poland dudring the war.

Hello again Helen, would that be the same year as me, Dave Lee Travis was one of the Judges, I think it may have been the year before yours??

Parrells Rose Hill - I think circa number 390, Wigan Road were Parrell. (The gentleman in question had suffered severe facial burns)
