This parade was for the Brigadiers inspection, which was annual.
What is the name of the barracks and which town is it in. ?
Hi. Graham,
The barracks were King George the sixth barracks, in Munster lager we were the only regiment there, except for a large German army training camp, they were training in tanks. The infantry we were in support was the H.L.I. They were stationed in Luneburg.
Just like the Barracks I was in at Bielefeld,(1948). I think all the German barracks were to the same design, I was at 54 RHU and 50 RHU about a mile nearer to town was also similar. At 54(Reinforcement Holding Unit)we could go roller skating in the attic. It had been a Panzer Barracks during the War and there was about 6 "de-activated Panzers" behind the workshop. E.T.
Can anyone help my Grandad in his service records was with 54 Reinforcement Unit in November 1944, also has in his records being BAOR Nov 1945, he never discussed his army service we also found out he was REME from Nov 42, CAN ANYONE explain the 54 Holding Unit and the BAOR to me PLEASE
Yvonne, I'm sure you know by now that BAOR means British Army of the Rhine. As for 54 Holding Reinforcement Unit, perhaps this helps:http://ww2talk.com/index.php?tags/54-reinforcement-holding-unit/
