The house next to the pub used to be one of the best chippys in the area when I was a young un, in the late 60's

it,s always a sad to see houses where you grew up being demolished.i remember it happening in lower ince.good photos tom,i like the long shadows.

Another good one Thomas! You can just see the terrace right at the far end where I moved to when I married my wife in 1985.

Also the cars! Is that a Bedford van? Not seen one of those for ages... and a Capri!

looks like the photo was taken in 1973. The yellow Capri looks like my mums car. We lived in The Railway from about 1963 to about 1976

Yes they were, Eric is a friend of mine., I lived in Ridyard Street and spent many happy hours in The Railway !!

I remember the chippy next door, it was run by 2 sisters, had a 'chippy tea' every Friday, used to take your own plates which they warmed on the range while you waited then carried them home wrapped in a tea towel !!

My grandfather john farrimond lived at no.16 moss lane when he got married in 1910 to sarah hope.I met my x husband in 1964 he also lived in moss lane(judson) grandfather lived at 12 caroline st wigan when he died in 1951 I was 2 1/2.

My grandmother Sarah Hope married my grandfather John thomas farrimond (16 moss Ln) from no. 13 Ingram St in 1910,
My father Alec Andrew Farrimond was born at 13 Ingram St in 1925 the house is still standing, does anyone know any details of Harry James Hope & Annie Hulmes who lived there in 1910,(my great grandparents)

Tom,this a great photo& quite nostaljic to me.Next to the chip shop was a newsagents.The owner around late 50s to mid 60s,was Bill Brown.I was a paper boy there for a few yrs,mornings& evenings for £1. I sacked the evenings & became the delivery order lad for the Co-op.Corner of Liverpool Rd/Whistley St,opposite Victoria pub.Deliveries made on the old co-op black bike, twin basket (GT model),brakes were the inside edge of my right shoe.This was until my mother complained to the manager,William(Billy) Halliday,who sent me up to Bill Hurst's at Hindley bike shop.Some new brake-blocks just about slowed it down but saved on shoes.Eric.I presume your Cyril Dodd's brother.I think you are a good few years younger than Cyril.He was in my class, right through primary till we both went to Moss Lane.We both left in 1963. I am in touch with him,as we are coming up to a ML reunion in October.If you've still got the same email as your posting, I'll contact you re the M/Lane past etc & where are you now.

I lived on Moss Lane in one of the houses in this photo, the other side of the entrance to the back of the row. I'm trying to find out which number it was but I'm having difficulty finding it and my memory has failed me. It was around 54 to 56 years ago now. Does anybody remember how the properties were numbered from the side of the pub going down Moss Lane?

I remember the chippy well, taking our own dishes and as kids we could get scratchings and pea wet for free.
