one brilliant picture of Greenough Street and surrounding area. Taken at a guess about mid 1960's. On the right you can see the first of Orchard House has been built; and the building of Upper Morris Street club. Memories!!!!
just as it was when I watched my last match
there in 1961.
When were the floodlights installed?
Brilliant pic of old Scholes Tommy. I have been after a pic that shows School st for ages, and I think this shows the last remnants of it. I was born in no 72 - the last in the street on that side. I think it is on the picture. Would you mind if I downloaded it please ?
Be My Guest John, did you realise that George Formbys birth place is on there too, at 3 Westminster St
Thanks very much for that Tommy. I never knew where exactly George was born to be honest - interesting. By the way, do you have any more pic's of the Scholes area at all?
Yes John I have hundreds of this type of Photo from when I used to fly around Wigan in my many aeroplanes.....
Only Kidding.. sorry I dont have any more like this.. I wish I had though
It would be great to see the same area as it is now I was born and raised here I can see the house in Vaughan St
No Douglas stand, I would say this was pre 1950, i used to play outside ground when young,Allways remember Douglas stand being there in fifties,
Definately not the 1950s!! Me and and my mate have worked out douglas stand, takes a close look! Plus, I lived in Greenough Street from birth. Look right hand side: Orchard House. I was born in 1959, and I remember the 'flats' being built when I was about 6 years old. However, Limefield had been built a few years before. being built around 1960. Cheers!!!
