I remember it well, my aunty Florie(Florence Smith) had a dress shop in the row on the left
I remember it as well mick. only wish i had a £1, for every time i ran over the grass roundabout to cross over the road as a kid. What wonderfull times they were......thanks for your comment.
Good pic Colin, my mum grew up in the house on the right of the photo and I actually spent the first 3 months of my life living there too, but obviously don't remember it!
My mother had the chip shop near the island. Anderton's shop was across the road shop and Jenny Sharrock's also. I think there was an Off Licence on the corner of Scot Lane called Browns
yes there was an off licence at the bottom of Scot Lane I was born in Scot Lane used to go there for my dads woodbines I dont remember the grass roundabout but i do remember the policeman on point duty my mother used to clean the bank oposite where the policeman stood.I left Scot Lane in 1961 to get married and now live in Wales but i still miss Scot Lane I was born there and lived there for 19yrs so thank you for Wigan World.
What a good photo Colin, especially with the 1960's motor in the background. Less conjested than today! My mum used to work in 'Martins The Cleaners', which was next to 'Barbara Whites' clothes shop. On the other side of the shop lived a lovely elderly couple (only house in the row of shops). The lady's name was 'Sissy' though I can't remember her husband's name. I used to help mum in Martins during my school holidays from St Mark's. Martins closed around 1968, when Johnsons The Cleaners bought them out and mum went to work for them in Wigan town centre. Happy 60's memories!
My late Grandpa or " Granpo Hampo " as we called him, Jack Hampson and My late Uncle David After him, owned the bakery Just out of shot.
