Evelyn, Is Don your husband? If so does he remember Ronnie Hurst who used to play for Wigan RL

Hi Stephen,we certainly do know Ronnie and his wife Olive.
We have kept in touch with him since he retired.
He is very well and he and Don still have a laugh about the antics that went on at Parsonage.
What is your surname Stephen, were you in the Electric Shop too?

Bye the way what do you think about the young Don on the other trainee photos?

Evelyn, My surname is Price and i was a fitter at Parsonage. I left in 1980 though to go to South Africa so i doubt if Don would remember me. Also i was an underground fitter so didn't get to know the surface lads that well. I'm sure we would know many of the same people though. Charlie Rushworth, Jimmy Fiddler, Derick Morris, Joe Littler, Mick Stokes to name but a few. Any more photo's?

Evelyn.Started as an apprentice in 1966,Don,Ronnie,cyril,Derek Newton were the surface electricians at that time.To say Don was a gentleman is an understatement as was Ronnie Hurst.I went to the Parsonage retail centre at Leigh at christmas and went past the old electric shop it brought back so many memories.I now spend most of my time in Spain but still look back to the times i worked at parsonage as one of the happiest times of my life.

I used to take Joe Littler home at night after afternoon shift go into S&S club in Atherton which is where Derek Newton used to drink. Didn't Cyril take a briecase to work each day. Some say it just had his snap in it

Stephen,Yes knew Roy,him and his brother Dennis[who was a electrician at plank lane]were my best mates,I left parsonage in 1971 and did a couple of years in South Africa, went back to parsonage in 1979 so must have missed you when you went to S.Africa,When i worked on the coal face Alan Hampson and Eric Greenhall were the fitters and Mick Stokes was underground engineer.Looking back you couldn:t have worked with a better set of work mates.

Hi Glyn.No you didn't miss me, i remember you well. I worked on the face with Alan, Eric Greenalgh and Joe Kenyon and was in South Africa with Roy. Stey Price is my name but for some reason i was known as Doug (long story) at Parsonage.

Stephen, it was Guy Morrison who always went to work with his sandwiches in his briefcase.

Glyn didn't you spend some time at the workshops at Walkden before returning to Parsonage

stephen,No i worked at kirkless workshops before going back to parsonage,when you worked with Roy in S.Africa did you work at Secunda,I did a few contracts there in the 80;s.Worked with Brian Read and Jimmy Makinnon.Evelyn dont spend to much time in England now but when i do if i go to Hindley I always hope to bump into Don as its a pleasure to talk to him.

Hi Glyn, yes i was in Secunda and the site was Sasol 2.
Sorry i got the workshops mixed up (Kirkless/Walkden). As an apprentice we had to spend 2 weeks there and i can remember you from then as well. One of my old schoolmates Peter Isherwood worked there.

Hi Joe, I moved back over the Pennines about 5yrs ago. I live in Carnforth now. Can't believe you're retired, you're not old enough surely. Your Godson is an English teacher in China now. Lovely to hear from you Joe. Hope you and Chris are in good health. Do you still do the 'special' handshake.

Me an Chris are fine. We intend to have as many hols as pos. Keith must be havin a wonderful time. Has he been in china long? Very good to hear from you.

I was wondering if the Roy Cunningham you are talking about has a brother called Paul. I am Paul's Support Worker and he is looking for his brother. Any information would be of the greatest help. Thanks

Only just found this picture,really enjoyed working at Parsonage some real characters there.Nice to see these friendly faces again,though I do see Don&Evelyn now & again.All the best to everyone who worked at Paronage&Astley Green.

hi everyone do any of u remember my dad Arthur Jones he used to work at parsonage for many years and he often spoke of when he worked there and his work friends.

good memories I remember all those faces Don always made us welcome when we worked at parsonage

my father worked at parsonage colliery for 18years he was the underground chargehand electrician later he moved to parkside but wished he had stayed at parsonage.he was underground when the disaster at golborne happened four of his mates were killed. he is now a millionare and as a villa near allicante he remmebers many of the names mentioned on the foram

I certainly know the chapsin this photo.Did my surface training under their expert guidance.

I remember well the likes of Ronnie Hurst and Cyril ?, I was an Apprentice Leccy from 63 to 68. The Surface Elect Foreman at the time was Ken Jones and the Chief Elect Eng was a Henry Bridge. All the apprentices enjoyed working with Ronnie as his stories/reminisces were always entertaining. I was there when Cyril's False teeth were the subject of a windup on the workshops labourer Harry. There was always something happening at the end of shift to keep everybody on their toes in case they were the subject of the joke.
