The witches hat park!, spent many a happy hour playing on there as a child, great photo Kurt, thankyou.
Think the block is Masefield House, and the maisonettes at the top right Baucher Road
Used to deliver Newspapers to these flats, creepy places, stank rotten. Hated using the lifts because they broke down so often, so always used stairs. I was super fit those days!
My grandad Tommy lived in Masefield House and I lived just to the right of the photo
Just wondering if anyone knows or remembers a john Berkeley or Christopher john who lived in one of the high rise flats in the 80s?
I lived in the maisonettes on the right for nearly 15 years. It was a dump, but always had fun on the park. Witches hat,big slide, little slide . And playing ticky off white
hi john how are youre brothers thomas and micheal its been a long time since we lived in baucher rd i live in kent now but i never forgot worsley mesnes when isaw youre name i had to reply parker
hi john how are youre brothers thomas and micheal its been 30 years since i saw you we used to go bmx ridiing in the early 1980s it was a deprived area but i have fond memories of my time there
This block of flats is Masefield House, and was the last of the three to be demolished in 1991,because one tenant called Fred Bourne stubbornly refused to move out. Half of the maisonettes were demolished in 1984 including two of the Mesnes Avenue blocks. The Baucher Road flats, on the right also went in 1984, but the other block on the left went in 1989. My uncle's uncle, Isaiah Whitton (1898-1987) probably the oldest tenant lived at number 21 in the right block that went before the other one.
