excellent photo thankyou for showing it,now thats where my dad was happiest in the seat driving trains.
he is a really nice chap your dad.i fired for him and was his secondman a few times.what is he doing on a deltic,i did,nt know he was trained for them.
You could not keep him out of the driving seat Stephen, even when he was a loco inspector travelling to work at Manchester,or Liverpool as manager, always a pleasure to be in his company. a true gentleman.
thanks geoff, thanks tom,he took severance pre privatisation 1996 had 2yrs doing nowt, then started working for vsoe charter trains division based at crewe part time 3day week working both steam and diesels,to say he was in his element was an under statement.
did a spell on these when they were on the north wales coast, they were absolute beasts..like nothing id ever worked before.the acceleration was phenomenal..we were treated like rockstars by the passengers when we got off the other end.im told they can reach 120,which does,nt surprise me.
Sad to say poor Roy departed to that great engine shed in the sky this summer. A nicer, more decent chap and more professional railwayman never walked God's earth! Sadly missed.
