Thanks for this view - it removes any lingering doubts I may have had that the pic I sent a couple of weeks ago of Sgt. William Wright posing outside this building was correctly located - the fine railings may be seen in that shot too. They are long gone, with the pavement moved back against the building itself, and a laybye set where the pavement is in this view.

The railings would have been removed for the war effort, as were all railings at the time.

I worked here as a girl cadet in 1969/70,more memories of a wonderful place to be - unless you were on the wrong side of course !!

When I was a child 1936-37,I lived opposite this police station. About 25 yards this side of the viewed police station,a railway line crossed the main road. A railway engine pulled wagons across the road to a works situated about a quarter of a mile behind where I lived. I have no idea what type of works it was.A man with a red flag would hold up the traffic, In those days there was not much traffic to speak of.

hi albert, what number house did you live at. as i have lived in number 555 for about 6 months. be nice if you new who lived in there when you was growing up.

Brian. Sorry, I have only just returned to this page. I lived in the very end house, where there is a garage now, according to the Google map. You lived directly opposite the police station. The Aindows lived next door to us.
